My sweet La-La had a good 2011. It definitely ended better than it started. La-La went to a different school than Jaco & Care Bear while we lived up north. It was so hard on her to be away from her siblings and add to that the fact that she went to school with some pretty mean little girls and my little lady was thrilled to find out we would be moving and she would get to go to a new school. (When she was around 3, I noticed she kept breaking out in hives for no reason that I could figure out. We had her tested for allergies but she came back 100% clear. It was decided that the hives were a psychosomatic response to stress. When she gets sick or stressed her body reacts by producing hives.) The poor girl was on Benadryl and Zyrtec so much in 2nd grade because she had hives all the time because of her school situation. As soon as we moved, the hives all but disappeared. She went from a school where she was teased and bullied to one where she feels safe and finally has good friends again. As hard as it was to watch La-La go through all of it, I feel it made her a better person. She learned to stand up for herself, strengthened her testimony of the gospel as she defended her choice to not join in questionable behavior, and she learned to not take everything so personal.
This wasn't a year of "milestones" for La-La; it was just a year full of adventure and animals. The rest of this post will primarily be pictures documenting her year.
My beautiful princess had so much fun with her Daddy Prince Charming at a Daddy Daughter Dance. As I curled her hair and put my necklace around her neck, I couldn't help but think of future dates she will go on someday...please don't grow up too fast!
La-La did have some good things at her school up north. I was able to go on a fabulous field trip with her where we got up close and personal with all kinds of animals. Plus she had a kind loving teacher who made class bearable. But there is no argument that her new school is so much better! 3rd grade is going great and she has even had a turn bringing the class hamster home for the weekend.
Remember how beautiful La-La was all dressed up? She lives in the best of both worlds...getting all dolled up and also getting dirty while experiencing the great outdoors, including fishing! She was so excited to learn how to clean a fish! She was going through all the guts deciding which organs were which. Made me smile.
When we went to the coast for Memorial Day weekend, we were able to get pretty close to some sea lions. La-La was disappointed we didn't let her get closer.
Here is my animal lover! From fish to frogs to fuzzy critters, she loves them all. She caught the baby squirrel and rescued him from Cody the dog. I was very proud of her when she made the right choice by letting him go far away from the dog. The bird flew into one of our windows and was stunned long enough she got to hold it. One time our cats got a quail and Cody the dog got in on the action. La-La couldn't stand to watch it suffer so she wrenched the bird from Cody's jaws and tried her hardest to save it. When it died, Daddy joked that we could eat it for dinner but of course La-La would have none of that. She promptly buried it in the backyard.
The only thing she likes more than animals is babies! She is such a sweet nurturing girl that it doesn't surprise me. If she had her way, we would have more kids but I think she will have to wait until she is married and can have her own. For now, she is pretty content holding baby cousins and any other baby she can get her hands on.
My cutie posing on the 4th!
This girl LOVES to be outside climbing and playing. She can get dirtier than any boy I have ever met.
Playing at the park with Care Bear and her best friend Ella who conveniently lives just down the street.
Miss La-La still loves the water! For her birthday, we went to our local water slides. We had to wait a couple days after her actual birthday because she was sick. But it was worth the wait!
Happy 9th Birthday!
First it's babies, then animals, and La-La's 3rd favorite thing is BUGS! It is not uncommon to see jars of various critters on my counters or outside by our front door if I win the "bugs stay outside" battle. This fall somehow she discovered that there are tiny little worm type critters inside acorns. She and Care Bear along with Ella, spent hours collecting and cracking open acorns to collect as many worms as possible. She found the praying mantis one day while we were out for a walk.
My beautiful Angel with some of her new school friends at the school Halloween party!
I love this gorgeous sweet little lady!
